Cirilo Mendoza Gonzalez

Grade: 12

Card Number: 47

Refran: "In a journey without a home.

you are in a state of loneliness."

Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on Homelessness.  I chose homelessness as a subject matter because a worldwide issue it been an issue for centuries, it should have not been an issue if the government really cared for their people, they would give support to those who needs it.  The colors in the piece represents sadness because the colors used are representing loneliness too.  The images in the piece represent homeless people, and other things that might revolve around them.  For me personally, this card represents having no money because it what causes people to go homeless.  I want the audience to see that homeless people are not bad people, They are people who are struggling with life and themselves.

Student Biography: My name is Cirilo Mendoza, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my parents, I have 6 siblings. My family is from Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent Homelessness. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was the problem with it and how most people see homeless people as someone bad or a criminal but it not always like that, some them have their own story on how they became homeless not by being a bad person but having a tough life that got them there. The artistic process was on what it looked like how homeless people live and how it is around them. Life after high school will be going to Allan Hancock and getting a job as an Automotive mechanic.
