Los pollitos
Brittany Santos-Castillo
Refran: "The ones that cry when they are first born, to picking plants when they are grown"
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on the process of the baby chicks growing. I chose as a subject matter because I think it is a unique trait that my grandma has created for my family. The colors in the piece represent the society that they live in. The images in the piece represent how they look like when they are first hatched. For me personally, this card represents something good in my life. I want the audience to see how other animals can make an impact in a persons life.
Student Biography: My name is Brittany Santos, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom, dad, and 3 siblings. My family is from Oaxaca, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent one of my family traditions for this project. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card were the fun experiences I had with the baby chicks when they were around me and my family. The artistic process was to keep pushing even if you were not happy with the results of your drawing. Life after high school will be going to college and transferring to a university to get a good job.
