El trauma
Yerali Letzania Montes Zurita
Refran: "You are showing happiness and satisfactions.
While I cry and suffer because of your actions."
Card Description: For my Lotería Card I wanted to share my thoughts on country conflicts. I chose World War as a subject because I want to focus on the innocents who are affected by these conflicts. The colors in the piece represent the dark and sad stories of the effects of these wars since the image itself has darker colors, I want this to be portrayed for the audience; darker colors mean more darker sides of the story. The images in the piece represent the deaths of many soldiers and civilians. For me personally, this card represents the sad and unnecessary deaths of people. I want the audience to focus more on the civilians who have nothing to do with these conflict, on the innocent children and young adults.
Student Biography: My name is Yerali Montes, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my parents and 2 younger brothers. My family is from Oaxaca, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent “El Trauma. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was to bring awareness to society. Many people tend to joke about childhood trauma but to others it can be a concerning topic. The artistic process was difficult because I was afraid of portraying too much “violence” because of the fear of others’ reactions. Life after high school for me will be attending a college/university to study Ag Business and hopefully have my own floral shop.
