El tamale

Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on a really iconic food, Tamales and how it brings people together. I chose Tamales as a subject matter because to me tamales brings families and friends together and it's a food that everyone can love and enjoy. The colors in the piece represent, a warm and calming feeling due to the dull colors, and few bright colors. The images in the piece represent that no matter who you are you can enjoy a simple plate of tamales with your friends and family to have a great time. For me personally, this card represents that different cultures can come together to enjoy this food. I want the audience to see that tamales can bring great joy and happiness to those who enjoy eating it with their families.

Student Biography: My name is Daymian Zepeda and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom dad and sister.  My family is from California. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent tamales. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was that every time I would make and eat the tamales, I always had a great time with my family and always had this warm feeling when we came together to eat tamales and I wanted to show through my card that Joy that you feel when you look look at the card. The artistic process was very fun for me because I love to paint and draw and being able to use different colors in my painting, made my time making my card exciting and enjoyable. Life after high school will be exciting because I am planning on going to college in order to study art and  music.
