Refran: "Oh no, here comes immigration
Run, hide and do not get caught"
Card Description: For my loteria card I wanted to share my thoughts on immigration. I chose immigration as subject matter because I wanted to spread awareness on my topic. The colors in the piece represent a better life and the Mexican dream. the image in the piece represents the Mexican dream and hopes of a better life. for me personally this card represents the sacrifices my parents have made for me to be where I am today. I want the audience to see that immigrants come here to the US looking for a better life.
Student Biography: My name is Erik Lavariega, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my parents and my brothers. My family is from Oaxaca, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent immigration. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was to spread awareness on the sacrifices Mexicans make when coming to the US. The artistic process was boring because I’m not a good painter, but the experience was fun. Life after high school will be attending college or university and studying education or psychology.
