Los Estados Unidos
Alanis Cedeno Flores
Refran: "Families go to the USA calmly, Because they don't have money."
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on The American Dream. I chose The American Dream as a subject matter because many families in The United States go through moving to the U.S. in search of what they think will be a better life. The colors in the piece represent The Mexican Flag which are green, white, and red. The images in the piece represent The Mexican Flag Painted over the America map which displaces how Mexicans try to be part of the American dream. For me personally, this card represents new beginnings for families. I want the audience to see the importance of people trying to make a better life for themselves, so they can try better for their families.
Student Biography: My name is Alanis Cedeno Flores, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my dad, mom, three sisters, and two brothers. My family is from Santa Maria. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent the American Dream. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was the hard-working Mexicans that come to the United States to work tirelessly for a better life for their families. This is what my grandparents had done for my parents. Also, I want to show how the American Dream is not always what it seems. The artistic process was enlightening painting the Mexican flag. While painting the flag I paid close attention to the flag which made me realize there are many colors in the flag. Life after high school will be hectic trying to balance school and maybe collage level wrestling at Westcliff University where I will study law.
