La máscara

Lisa Diaz Gonzalez

Refran: "In public hiding behind the mask Underneath asking who I am"

Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on mental health and depression. I chose as a subject matter because it's invisible to others. The colors in the piece represent the melancholy feeling of living with depression. The images in the piece represent what it feels like to change who you are for others. For me personally, this card represents something that I've had problems dealing with.  I want the audience to see one of the issues people struggle with in not knowing who they are.

Student Biography: My name is Lisa Diaz-Gonzalez, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California, with my parents, three brothers, and a sister. My family is from Mexico. On my Loteria card, I chose to represent depression and mental health. My struggle with depression served as the inspiration for my Loteria card. The artistic process was fun in the way I chose to change the elements of the painting with new ideas. Life after high school will be focused on attending college.
