Card Description: For my Loteria card, I wanted to share my thoughts on the importance of drugs and alcohol. I chose drugs and alcohol as a subject matter because I want to spread awareness on how dangerous alcohol and drugs can be. The colors in the piece represent a warmth and cool tone. The images in the piece represent how alcohol and drugs affect different places in your body including the lung. For me personally, this card represents the importance on how drinking and smoking can affect your health. I want the audience to see that drinking and smoking is still a problem in today's world and a important topic that still needs to be talked about.

Student Biography: My name is Berenice Vargas and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom, dad, older brother, older sister, and niece. My family is from Jalisco, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent the issues of Alcohol and Drugs. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was to bring awareness on the reality of drinking and smoking. The artistic process was interesting because I was able to get creative and style my own Loteria card. Life after High School will be to go to Allan Hancock for a few years before transferring to a university, I would like to major in public health and become a Medical Assistant or RN.
