El camino disfrazado
Veronica Rodriguez
Refran: "Dealing with all the pain and regret,"
"From so many wasted years."
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on drug addiction and its effects. I chose drug addiction and its effects as a subject matter because it is an issue that has been worsening the past years. The images in the piece represents how drugs trap a person into addiction. For me personally, this card represents the feeling of hopelessness as their life has become revolved around drugs and as their circle of friends and loved ones disappear, death patiently waits close by until finally approaching the person during their final moments. I want the audience to see the ability that drugs can take so much from a person's life to the point where all they have left to turn to are drugs, which is self-destruction.
Student Biography: My name is Veronica Rodriguez, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my parents and three siblings. My mother was born in Mexico while the rest of my family is from the United States. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent drug addiction and its effects What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was the continuous increase in cases for drug abuse and how younger ages are becoming victims to addiction in this trend. The artistic process was calming. Life after high school will consist of me continuing education, earning my degree in nursing, and further serving my community through and outside my career.
