Student Biography:  My name is Lizzet Rodriguez. I was born in Santa Maria. I  come from a family of six. I enjoy spending time with my family,  and my team. I also like playing waterpolo. After high school I  want to attend Allan Hancock college for 2 years and then  transfer, and then go to a dental school.  La Ofrenda which is a big part of the day of the dead. It dates  back to ancient cultures in Mexico particularly the Aztecs. They  believed that death was a natural part of life and that the spirits  of the dead would return to visit their families. The tradition of  creating ofrendas evolved over time It is also a catholic holiday.  Today Dia de los Muertos is celebrated from October 31st to  November 2nd. The ofrenda is the central part of Dia de los  muertos. The Ofrenda is an altar or offering that families create  to honor and remember their loved ones who have passed  away. It believed that during this time, the spirits of the  departed return to visit their families. The ofrenda is decorated  with photos, candles, flowers, food, and other meaningful  items that represent the person being remembered. The  message that I’m trying to give from my art work is that death  can be scary because it’s unknown and can bring sadness and  loss. However, some people believe that death is a natural part  of life’s journey. It’s a chance for new beginnings and a way to  honor and remember those who have passed, and there’s  plenty ways you can remember them.
