Student Biography: La Migration My name is Alejandro Torres-Hernandez. I was born in Santa Maria and come from a family of six. I am a barber and I do that as a hobby, I also enjoy playing volleyball. After Graduating I hope to attend Cal Poly and major in Architecture Engineering. “La Migration”, my Loteria card. When people migrate, they think of coming to a better place, a better living. They think we will have a better chance of getting a good future. To be fair it is possible for some people, but most will not have the chance to succeed. When they first arrive in a place, like the United States, they start working trying to get money so they can get their essentials and start their life here. The most common place they work is the fields, because it is work that you can get pretty easily, most Americans won’t go work in the fields, but if you just have immigrated to the U.S. you will take any job you can get. Working in the fields the conditions are not the best, the work is harsh on your body. You suffer from not having energy, you suffer from your body aching in pain. That’s why I came up with my refran, “Mudar del sufrimiento, para llegar a uno nuevo” because you leave the life you have in your home country, that suffering you moved from, and come to a new suffering that you may probably never get an end to.
