Jose G. Raya
Refran: "Any decision could be your last. Be careful on what you do, death might be after you."
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on the topic on drugs. I chose drugs as a subject matter because its a growing problem that is affecting a lot of people in different ways. One of these ways is that a lot of people are dying even some people i know personally. The colors in the piece are simple as the brighter colors reflect is high lighting the main problem or focus on the topic which for mine is drugs. And the darker colors represent death itself or concept of death. But I want the audience to see whatever they think or believe what this piece is showing and use their imagination of what its trying to say. the main heart or point to see in my painting is the blue pills which represents or is supposed to be fentanyl. And is the main cause for the death for this character in this painting.
Student Biography: My name is Jose Raya, and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my parents and my two younger siblings. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was that drugs is a growing issue affecting many people in different ways. Also that there is many different ways on how drugs can mess up or end someone's life. The artistic process was a little unique or different what I'm used to. In my opinion the best part was just planning everything seeing where everything is going to go. Life after high school is that I'm planning to go to college and major in mechanical engineering or criminology.
