La Inocente

Yaneli Dominguez Garcia

Refran: "Be careful young lady

the wolf is at your side

quietly hiding in the shadows."

Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on Harassment. I chose Harassment as a topic because it happens often, it has happened to me and so many women around me not only that but there are many cases of women on the news and social media who have gotten raped. The colors in my art piece represent innocence (white), calmness (blue), and danger (red and black). For me personally, this card represents the time I was almost grabbed by an older man at the store when I was 10 years old. I want the audience to interpret my art as a young girl trying to live her life but gets put in an uncomfortable situation that she did not ask for and the fear and anger she feels.

Student Biography: My name is Yaneli and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I am from Mexico, Oaxaca. I was inspired to make this painting because harassment is a big issue and it started happening to me at a very young age. When I was 10, I lost my mom and a man followed me around the store and when he got close, he tried grabbing my hand, but I escaped. I knew that just by looking at him he didn't have good intentions. That is why I drew a hand getting dragged down and I choose the colors on the card to also have meaning. After high school I want to go to college and become a business major.
